Oh Gramatik, how I love you. You never let me down. Showing some Beatles love on this one.
Gramatik, a Slovenian native who landed in the States, is signed to Pretty Lights’ label and has been killing Beatport and other site charts. You can’t really put him into a genre because the style blends.
This has been stuck in my head all day. It’s no wonder considering it is played on the radio all the time (seriously, I heard it twice on the way home yesterday). I’ve always loved Adam Levine’s vocals. They are very unique.
This track is from their album, Overexposed, which is available now.
I watched the video for the first time today and it will send you all over the place emotionally. Be prepared to smile, laugh, and cry.
Did you like Eliza Doolittle? Well, if you did you should like this too. Paloma is another retro-inspired vocalist hailing from London. This is from her 2009 debut album.
There is definitely an old soul in her voice and it’s refreshing. She released a new single, Picking Up The Pieces, this year. She has another single set to be released on the 23rd.
The British-born Eliza has a new fan (me and quite possibly you). Her tracks remind me a bit of Adele. It’s like soulful vintage rock. I love how there is the added orchestral flair in some of them. She’s a new discovery for me and I’m going to stick her self-titled album in my favorites/Jammin’ playlists.
The melody from this song is from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. I wish I could add this to my Spotify, but alas I cannot. The Belgian rock group re-formed in 2005 with a different lineup (different violinist and no cellist).
It’s hard to put into words what exactly this sounds like, only that it sounds familiar, almost like a 70s vibe. Caroline Polachek has a rich voice that layers well with the underlying rhythmic melody/beat. The accompanying music video for this is a little trippy. It definitely looks 80s (with the cinematography, colors, and captions, except it’s not. It’s like Ladytron meets Jefferson Airplane. Get the album on iTunes (it was released this year).
If you live in the Cincinnati region, they will be participating in a free concert along with RJD2 and others as part of Scion’s event on September 15. More details are here.
Lyrics (click more to read):
I was first introduced to Within Temptation through a speed painting video on YouTube that had Forsaken being played in the background (probably my most favorite WT song).
This is another I love, in the same style. If you like Lacuna Coil or Evanescence, you’ll love Within Temptation. It’s symphonic rock at its finest.
Lyrics (press more):
I was first exposed to this song playing Tap Tap Revenge (very similar to Rock Band, for mobile). I couldn’t remember what the song was for the longest time and then I discovered it again.
I think The Filthy Pillows have a similar feel.
